My parents were in town a few weeks ago and the gluttony set in, stopping by as many delicious places around Chicago as possible. I tried to snap pics but sometimes the food was devoured too quickly to even catch the moment. Here’s a little roundup of where and what we ate:
Sunday night: Rosebud On Taylor
If you want amazing italian food, huge portions, and an authentic dimly lit feel look no further. Don’t miss the pappardelle marinara it literally melts in your mouth. My other favorites are the Mama’s Meatballs & the Chopped Salad. Everything is super delish and you are sure to have leftovers.
Monday lunch: Bar Siena
Most people go for the pizza (which is awesome) but if you’re looking for a great salad try the shaved zucchini and add grilled chicken. it’s filling yet light all at the same time. Perfection.
Monday dinner: Beatrix Fulton Market
As you already know, I adore their Turkey Neatloaf, but this time we tried the kennebec fries and those are a new must have when feeling indulgent. My mom had the Chicken Bebe which I snagged a few bites of and was well worth it. Also do not miss the desserts, besides for the cookies, the caramel pie and chocolate cake are to die for.
Tuesday breakfast: Soho House
My mom joined me on the roof to spend a little time poolside before my midday class and we enjoyed some breakfast from the new Nava menu. It’s mediterranean in nature and I couldn’t help but try the new bagel platter, served up with labneh, pickled red onion, smoked salmon and a soft boiled egg. That big lemon wedge was the perfect topper.
Tuesday lunch: Toast
We ventured up to Lincoln Park to a spot that my mom has been to a bunch of times and always raves about. She was still feeling like she wanted a breakfast fix (veggie eggs benny that I am DEFINITELY going back to get because the bites I had were total perfection) and I opted for a light salad nicois. IT was a great way to segway from a big breakfast to an even bigger dinner…
Tuesday dinner: Green Street Smoked Meats
It is dangerous and amazing living just 4 blocks from this place and it just so happens my dad’s prettttttty into BBQ. This was actually his first time eating there and it did not disappoint. My parents also agree there is definitely crack in that mac salad – anyone else? And as strange as it sounds, don’t miss out on the salmon.
Wednesday lunch: Eataly
We always have to make a pit stop at Eataly when they are in town to get my dad that prime rib sando (he has literally tried to recreate the porcini mushroom rub at home he likes it that much). We ended up sharing a bunch of stuff including 2 pizzas, a buratta platter, the sando, and a couple of varieties of arancini balls.
After they left on Wednesday all I wanted was a big bowl of greens so the hubs and I headed to Sweet Green after dropping them at the airport for Chicago’s best salads.
Next time they come we have to try some new spots – any recos?!
