Highs & Lows: 06/08/18
Highs:
- Family Dinner: A while back my mom started doing these big family dinners every 2 months and I have been lucky enough to make it out there for almost ALL of them. It is a perfect way for me to see tons of extended family in one fell swoop when I head out west, especially since this is probably the last/only time many of them will see me during pregnancy before Ford arrives! It was a lovely dinner, everyone’s favorite Eggplant Parm, and we even had our oldest family member my 95-year-old grandma and my youngest, my cousin’s 3-month-old baby - so cool!
- Baby Drip: Since not all of our west coast family & friends can make it out to Chicago for my shower in July, and since my BEST FRIEND is due with a baby girl 2 weeks before me and lives in San Fran, we decided to do a really small get together which my mom called a drip (not a shower, not a sprinkle, a drip lol). It was a really nice evening of yummy Italian food and some super sweet gifts, and lots of much-needed girl time.
- SOS Yoga Event: I managed to make it to a super cool event on Thursday which I will be doing a recap on shortly but this was the event description:
Vinyasa yoga class led by Chicago yogi, Carla Jian, and set to today’s top hit music by DJ Matt Roan. Proceeds from the class benefit SOS Children's Villages Illinois, a non-profit, child-welfare agency that serves children in foster care and at-risk youth in nearby communities, in some of Chicago’s highest crime neighborhoods.
After taking part in the good vibe flow, attendees will enjoy a vitality inspired menu crafted by the hotels’ Executive Chefs; Dan McGee, Sean Curry and Greg Biggers filled with healthy bites and delectable desserts. Guests will also have the opportunity to relax with mini-minute massages courtesy of mySpa, create a five sense craft by Make to Celebrate and take home a yoga mat.
Lows:
- Gestational Diabetes Test: On Thursday I had the test and it kinda yucky but not as bad as I thought it would be. The worst part was after drinking the drink you couldn't have ay water and was SO thirsty! But mostly I’m just sitting here anxiously twiddling my thumbs waiting for the results. GAH!
Best thing I ate:
Greek Salads from Souvla & Olive Oil Cake from Mangia Mi
Weekend plans:
Staying in Chicago and having a healthy low key weekend. I’ve been gone 9 days in the past 2 weeks and I am so excited to just be home and getting back into a normal routine. Eating healthy is high on my list and getting in some gentle exercise. Maybe even making it up to the lake if it’s nice!
